Gurramkonda Munaswamy Naidu
Dr. Gurramkonda Munaswamy (G.M.) Naidu passed away peacefully in the loving company of his wife, Prameela and family.
Born in Kotha Palle, Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, India, Dr. Naidu was a determined scholar who sought opportunities beyond his rural upbringing. His academic journey began in Tirupati, where he excelled both as a student and a track athlete. He later earned a Master’s degree from the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, a testament to his dedication to learning and research.
In 1965, G.M. and Prameela were married, and together embarked on a new chapter in the United States, pursuing a Ph.D. in Marketing and Statistics at Michigan State University. Soon after, they had their first child Sharmila, followed by Sailen and Ramo.
In 1969, G.M. accepted a teaching position at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he would dedicate the next 35 years to his twin passions—education and research. He played a pivotal role in establishing the university’s MBA program and laying the foundation for research in the newly developed business school. A respected leader in his field, he was deeply involved in the sales and marketing fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon and served as past president of Mu Kappa Tau, a marketing honor society.
G.M.’s impact extended far beyond the classroom. He mentored countless students, graduate students, and junior faculty, leaving an indelible mark on their lives and careers. His time in Whitewater was enriched by the lifelong friendships he built with colleagues and friends. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, including his extended family.
He enjoyed traveling and attending conferences all around the world. G.M. sought to explore every wonder of the world and touched foot in over 90 countries.
Above all, G.M. was a devoted husband and an extraordinary father. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to movies and for ice cream, creating cherished memories.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Prameela; his daughter, Sharmila (Brian); his sons, Sailen (Susie) and Ramo (Nicole); and his six adored grandchildren: Malini, Nathin, Mila, Maddie, Niara, and Kiran.
Dr. Naidu’s legacy of wisdom, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would appreciate donations to his two scholarships under the designation “Naidu” uww.edu/give.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October, 5, 2025 at 11a at the Hilton Bellevue Hotel.
